Tailor & Tramp, a hot new local band, has made a name for themselves with their unique country rock sound… and every now and again group frontman, Werner “Weerlig” Kruger, also makes the girls squirm by taking off his shirt. With the release of their debut single, MIDNIGHT TEMPTATION, the Pretoria-based band is hoping to reach even more people with their catchy lyrics and upbeat style.
Written by Werner and lead guitarist Fish Archer, MIDNIGHT TEMPTATION is essentially about being caught up in a bad relationship. “We all know someone who has been in a toxic relationship for longer than they should have… or have been in one ourselves… and that is what this song is about,” shares Werner, about the message behind their first release.
With great melodies and a relatable message tied neatly with a modern country-rock bow, the song offers easy listening and will no doubt appeal to a wide audience.
A music video of the single will also be available soon, but they do not want to give away too much at this stage. “We work hard, have done a lot of shows and would like viewers to experience the band in a live performance setting,” explains Werner.
Tailor & Tramp was established in 2018 and consists of Werner Kruger, Fish Archer, Matthew Gerli and Reinhardt von Solms. The band’s name comes from Kruger’s own interpretation of Yin and Yang – the perfect balance between good and evil.
This project started after Werner and Fish met through mutual friends and started playing together for fun. “We then arranged our first show ourselves as ‘Uit die Bloute’, because that is how the band started. ‘Uit Die Bloute’ was mainly a cover band with a few originals. I then decided that I really wanted to write Country music and wanted to try something new and that’s how Tailor & Tramp originated,” shares Kruger.
The band developed and established its unique sound and vision and moved towards live performances; the most notable of which was performing with Jo Black, Snotkop, Franja Du Plessis, Jay, Pieter Koen and more. They were also scheduled to perform with Biggy and Early B at Sun Arena, but the show was cancelled because of the Covid-19 pandemic.
This foursome already has already created seven original tracks and would like to release their first album as soon as possible. They also plan to visit Nashville in the near future to introduce their music to the international market.
