Popular Singer, Bernice West, Releases Second Album

Bernice West shot to fame in 2019 after coming second in the reality television show, Maak My Famous, and has been making waves in the music industry ever since.

Not only has she released a successful album and several radio hits, but she has also been nominated for various music awards and recently starred in Inhoud Huis Musiek’s hit musical, Die Gelofte: ’n Musiekblyspe. After a very successful run, the production will return to stage in September this year.

But wait, there’s more! Her second album, JONA, has just dropped and promises to satisfy even the most critical of ears.

According to the twenty-one-year-old singer-songwriter her latest release combines various genres, ranging from alternative and rock to pop and folk, to create a fresh and unique sound that will appeal to a broad audience.

We had enough content for an album and wanted to share it with the world,” she explains. “It is very commercial and upbeat. Listeners can look forward to a variety of new sounds and songs.”

Like always, the album was produced by a dynamic team and expertly compiled to make an impression.

She reveals: “Only three songs were written by someone else. One was created by Jannes Erasmus, Johan Vorster and Jacomien de Wet, the second was written specially for Die Gelofte musical and the third is a modern cover of a traditional favourite.”

Ek Skree is her favourite song on the album, because of its catchy tune and lyrics. Jona, the titular track was very well received and also holds a special place in her heart.

Other tracks like Soen my op my Mond, Agter Jou, Leuens, Sonder Jou, Lyfie, Nie jou X nie, Voel, Dink aan Jou and Hemel op Aarde are also available on the album.

To compliment the album, Bernice will be releasing Agter Jou as the radio single and fans will be delighted to hear that Nie Jou X Nie also has a music video! Filmed in Pretville by Director Conrad Theron and produced by Ulrich Fischer.

Bernice grew up in Swartruggens and has always been passionate about singing and performing.

She made her musical debut in 2019 and at the age of nineteen she was invited to sing the South African National Anthem before the test match between the Springboks and Argentina.

Since then, she released several number one hits, including Sonop-Blom (number 1 on Apple Music’s charts for ten months) and Die Hart. Her music videos have also been streamed more than fourteen million times on YouTube. She is also the youngest Afrikaans artist ever to be nominated for a SAMA.

Bernice, who is constantly creating new music, is excited to share her latest album with fans and hopes that people will be able to relate to its content.
