In Gert-Johan Coetzee’s episode of E! VIP he discusses how his career kicked off: “When starting a fashion brand, of course you have to fake it till you make it. The clients don’t come in the beginning and the Instagram likes and the applause aren’t there. I think for me the hardest part was in the beginning, waking up every day following the fashion trends and just having the faith that one day it’s going to come to you”.
Coetzee also opens up about the first famous person he dressed: “The first famous person I dressed, and this was the most exciting I’ve ever been, was as a first year studying fashion. Sandy Ngema contacted me wanting a dress for a big horse racing event. That was so exciting to be a student and to be dressing celebrities getting your name out there. The first breakthrough is always the biggest highlight”.
