National Geographic Wild June 2023 Highlights

WORLD OCEANS MONTH

Sundays at 18:00 throughout the month

Oceans cover over 70% of the planet. The sea is our life source, supporting humanity’s sustenance and that of every other organism on earth. National Geographic Wild will dedicate one week to programming exploring the oceans and marine fauna. The purpose of this exciting feature is to ignite an understanding of the importance of the oceans in our everyday life and to inspire action to protect them.

EXTRAORDINARY BIRDER (6 x 60)

Wednesdays at 18:00 from 21 June (10 x 30, ends 26 July)

Life-long birder Christian Cooper takes us on a journey to dive into and discover the wild, wonderful and unpredictable world of birds around the US.

Whether braving stormy seas in Alaska for puffins, trekking into rainforests in Puerto Rico for parrots, or scaling a bridge in Manhattan for a peregrine falcon, he does whatever it takes to learn about these extraordinary, feathered creatures and show us the remarkable world in the sky above.

WILD ALASKA

Fridays at 18:00 throughout the month

The wildlife of Alaska is both diverse and abundant. The Alaskan Peninsula provides an important habitat for fish, mammals, reptiles, and birds. The rugged coast of America’s biggest state harbours’ the most incredible wildlife in America. When winter breaks, animals make the most of the endless sunshine before this world closes again in darkness. This June we will explore Alaska, our last frontier.

NKASHI, RACE FOR THE OKAVANGO (1 x 70)

Saturday 24 June 2023 at 18:00

Nkashi: Race for the Okavango tells the story of three mokoro (traditional dugout canoe) polers in Botswana’s Okavango Delta. As they prepare for the annual Nkashi Classic – a time-trial race, founded in 2018 by the Botswana Wild Bird Trust (BWBT), that attracts the fastest mokoro polers in the Delta – they also contend with grief, the local impacts of climate change, and the urgency of preserving the tradition of the mokoro and nkashi for the next generation.
