AfriSnaaks: Wayne McKay’s Hilarious Afrikaans Comedy

McKay is a seasoned entertainer with a multi-faceted career in comedy, acting, radio, television, and emceeing. He invites you to join him on this rollercoaster exploration of the remarkable language that is Afrikaans as experienced by those living in Mzansi and as seen through his razor-sharp, witty, and sometimes absurdly satirical comedic performance.

AfriSnaaks takes you on a journey through the quirks and idiosyncrasies of Afrikaans, showcasing the language’s playful nuances, colloquialisms, and absurdities that make it so uniquely humorous. “Audiences can look forward to experiencing, among other things, a bridging of the divides between Afrikaaps and Afrikaans on stage in a heart-warmingly humorous way that will have you laughing until you cry,” says the show’s award-winning director, Jeremeo Le Cordeur.

ABOUT WAYNE MCKAY

Wayne Mckay has a long history in the entertainment industry as a stand-up Comedian, actor, radio and television voiceover artist, and popular master of Ceremonies. He is well-known known for his YouTube clip Wheelies, which has been circulating internationally. Wayne freelances across South Africa and his one-man show Roots has been one of his most popular to date. He was voted first runner-up at the 2003 Sprite Soul Comedy Festival in Sandton.

For more than a decade (2012 – 2023), Wayne performed stand-up and plied his trade across Australia and New Zealand. His television experience includes an online stand-up comedy performance at the Toyota SU Woordfees during the Covid 19-pandemic. His versality also earned him the opportunity to host the premiere screening of HBO’s The House of the Dragon Season One on Mnet in 2022. Wayne presents Laidback Thursday on Bush Radio. ABOUT JEREMEO LE CORDEUR

Jeremeo is an award-winning arts and entertainment professional with over a decade of experience in several sectors of the cultural and creative industries in South Africa and abroad. He hails from the Boland town of Wellington in the Western Cape and has served in various capacities since graduating from City Varsity’s School of Media and Creative Arts in 2008.

His professional expertise ranges from writing and directing award-winning productions, to capturing the world of performing arts through his camera’s lens.

In 2023, Jeremeo co-played the role of MC in the Kyknet Films & Go2 Content film Ouma Olive. Last year, he appeared in various television commercials and played the role of Marno Venter in the popular telenovela Arendsvlei. During this period, Jeremeo also worked as a voice over artist, director and social media/marketing professional for various clients.

In 2021, his video production Ouma Lilly en Haar Klong featured on DSTV in the Toyota US Woordfees after receiving a prestigious 2020 Silver Standard Bank Ovation Award at the first online digital National Arts Festival. Another noteworthy accolade is the NATi Rising Star Award at the 2019 Suidoosterfees for Jeremeo’s vibrant storytelling in two monodramas — Jerry, an Unconventional Hero and Dude, Wa’s My Bakkie? — which were offered as a double feature at Suidoosterfees and other festivals. His latest show Dude Wa’s My Phone continues to wow audiences in theatres across the country.
