Double Delight For South African Movies At Septimius Awards Ceremony

Award winning South African director Ian Gabriel has scored a unique double at the Amsterdam based Septimius Awards ceremony, where he has had two films nominated in the Best Film category – the road trip father son comedy Runs in the Family, currently screening on Netflix, and the investigative thriller Death of a Whistleblower currently screening on Amazon Prime.

Gabriel’s two films were released in rapid succession between mid-2023 and early 2024.

A further double has been scored for Death of a Whistleblower which has nominations in both the Best Film and Best African Film categories.

Death of a Whistleblower already holds the Best African Film accolade awarded at the 2024 Joburg International Film Festival whilst Runs in the Family was awarded the Best South African Film accolade at the 2023 Durban International Film Festival and was nominated in the Outstanding Film category at this year’s 35th Annual GLAAD Awards in New York.

“We are thrilled that these two films have travelled so well and continue to thrill audiences at festivals around the world,” says director, Ian Gabriel.  “These are two very different films, but both have struck a chord with audiences.”
