FAME Week Africa; the leading trade event for Africa’s major creative economies, is open for registration with a series of co-related programmes that focus on film, television, animation, music, fashion and entertainment technology. The programme is now live and registration is open. Held in the host city of Cape Town, South Africa from 1-7 September, the show consists of four key attendance streams:
MIP Africa (2 – 4 September 2024)
MIP Africa offers pre-scheduled one-to-one matchmaking that guarantees meetings between content creatives, producers, buyers and sellers to support programmes, sales and co-production partnerships. With an eye on African and global viewers, deals are made through a mix of networking events and various business opportunities. This year’s programme highlights include a deep dive into the preferences and behaviours of African TV and film audiences, the impact of AI on the industry, development masterclasses, panels that focus on African distribution, women directors and producers shaping film and television and more.
Muziki Afrika (2 – 4 September 2024)
Focussing on the core music business (labels, publishers, rights societies and more), the technology sector (start-ups, developers, and big tech companies) and brands and the agencies that represent them (for music and brand campaigns), Muziki Africa is a three-day conference. Delegates can expect keynotes, masterclasses and workshops, as well as one-to-one meetings between music publishers, music copyright holders and film and television producers. In 2024, the programme includes panels that explore the relationship between music and brands, online distribution channels, the role of music videos in elevating African Artists, a music industry masterclass with Texx and the City among other events on the programme.
African Fashion Forum (3 – 4 September 2024)
The African Fashion Forum (AFF) connects the vibrant African fashion industry with film, TV, and music. Offering a programme of prominent industry figures, emerging talent, and thought leaders at the intersection of fashion and entertainment, attendees will gain insights into trends, foster educational growth, and network with designers, brands, retailers, and other key stakeholders in the fashion ecosystem. The programme includes a UNESCO Trend Report, a session exploring the symbiosis between film characters and costume with Nigeria’s leading costume designer for film and television, Yolanda Okereke, discussions about sustainability in fashion and fashion shows featuring guest designers MASA MARA from Rwanda/South Africa, Ghana’s APHIA SAKYI and Yolanda Okereke from Nigeria.
Cape Town International Animation Festival (2 – 4 September)
African animation has secured a place on the global stage and interest continues to grow in African stories and African creativity with animation studios becoming increasingly global and diverse. At this conference, the focus is on animation including pitch competitions, accelerator programmes, screenings, animation challenges, studio focuses and industry panels.
FAME Week Africa is packed with networking and showcase events kicking off on 1 September 2024 with Nollywood Night at the Rockefeller Hotel. Delegates will also enjoy the FAMEous Party, Producers’ Breakfast, the Inclusive Lens Awards, MultiChoice Series Showcase, African Women in Entertainment Breakfast concluding with the FAME Shorts Film Festival, a public festival featuring 29 short films from across Africa that will run from 4 to 7 September at The Labia Theatre.
