South Africa’s film industry continues to thrive, attracting R2.52 billion (€132 million) in foreign investment from international productions between November 2023 and June 2024, according to UNESCO mapping studies. Nigeria’s Nollywood is also a powerhouse, producing approximately 2,500 films annually. And with the rapid rise of streaming platforms, content consumption across the continent has never been higher.
Lower production budgets and quicker turnaround times are reshaping the industry landscape — but one thing remains constant: everything starts with a great idea. And MIP Africa is where that idea can become reality.
Returning to Cape Town as part of FAME Week Africa from 1–3 September 2025, MIP Africa — the continent’s edition of the world-renowned film and television market — brings together a dynamic mix of buyers, commissioning editors, industry leaders, creatives, and investors from across Africa and around the world to network, share insights, and do business.
At the heart of MIP Africa is the Project Pitch Platform, a powerful launchpad for filmmakers, animators, storytellers, and creative visionaries to present their ideas to verified buyers, commissioning editors, and financiers. Whether it’s a rough concept or a project already in production, submissions are welcome across all genres and formats.
“If you’re in the film and television industry, FAME Week Africa is the place to gather and do business,” says Martin Hiller, Portfolio Director for FAME Week Africa. “We’re proud of how MIP Africa is growing — each year, more buyers and investors are coming to the show in search of fresh and compelling projects. For creatives seeking funding and partnerships, this is a real opportunity to bring your stories to life. We encourage you to apply.”
“We’ve had two television series fully commissioned by one of Africa’s biggest networks thanks to MIP Africa. One series came directly from the 2023 pitching sessions, and the other from 2024. We’re signed, sealed and already hard at work. MIP Africa have consistently provided an incredible platform — and I’m thrilled to say we’re rocking and rolling because of it,” says Robert dos Santos from And.
