Multi-talented, in movies and song, we catch up for a Q&A with Nico Bucher, to talk about the single “Honest” releasing 15 August 2025
Tell us a little about yourself.
Hey my name is Nico, I’m an artist from Florida. I make alternative pop music and I also love to make films. Something you might have seen me in, is Netflix’s “Carry-On“, and you could hear me in my 17 track album called “Velvet Doors“. I am coming out with my new single “Honest” on August 15th and I cannot wait for you to hear it! Also, look out for the music video.. It’s pretty creepy.
The title of your new song is “Honest”, out 15 August. What is the meaning behind that title, and what does that mean to you?
My past experiences led me to write this song, and the title has so much depth to my story. I believe every relationship has the ability to thrive if both partners are transparent. “Honest” has a pure yet broken sound to it and I think this title matches that.
What is “Honest” about?
“Honest” is about infidelity. It holds suggestion and rage in one hand, and disappointment and hollowness in the other.
What inspired the song?
“Honest” was written after catching my partner with someone else. It was a therapeutic release and my way of letting go and forgiving. I held so much anger and confusion for so long, and with this song, I was able to create something beautiful out of something so ugly.
Can you share some of the journey of “Honest”; how the song was born, and how you got to its imminent release?
The music was constructed by two talented friends of mine, Donnie Fuson and Jose Benzaquen. They showed me the instrumental with this really interesting guitar melody. I haven’t heard anything like it, and I instantly fell in love with the arrangement. When I sat down to write the chorus, I had so many emotions built up that the words just moved seamlessly through my hand to a sheet of paper. I knew then, we had something special.
Any particular moment in the creation of “Honest” that stands out for you personally?
The last chorus of the song is written differently due to the breakdown in the bridge. I absolutely love what we did during that moment. It has a totally different feel to it, almost like we began to write a whole new song. The pop feel to the first half is light and engaging, but the ending is like a breath of fresh air. You don’t hear it coming, but when you do, you’ll feel peace- kind of like the ending to my story.
With “Honest” out soon, and looking back on all your other songs, do you feel your music has changed, as life changes, over the years?
Definitely, my music will always evolve just as I do. We all go through experiences that shape us into something new. For me, the music I was making ten years ago isn’t even in the same genre as it is today. But that’s the beauty of creating music, it doesn’t define you, nor constrict you.. instead, it helps catapult you to the next creation and the next chapter in your life.
You’re juggling several worlds in the performing arts, including singing, and acting. How do you find balancing all those worlds, and how does one art form enhance the other, for you?
I feel as though they both go hand in hand. Making music sometimes feels like acting, because you have to tap into those feelings to be able to give an authentic performance. All it is, is trying to make it all feel real to someone else. Moving them with your words, your sounds, your expressions. I don’t feel like I have to juggle anything because every audition, performance and recording contribute to each other by helping me grow and dig deeper as a person.
Was there a defining moment, when you knew you wanted to be part of the performing arts?
If I’m being honest (lol), the moment I saw Miley playing Hannah Montana on her tv show made me want to be an actor and singer at the same time. I created this dream to one day make the soundtrack for the movie I acted in. I want my two worlds to combine like hers did, and that was my moment of realization, ha.
Does your work as an actress, and getting into the heads of various characters, ever inspire your songs?
Oh, for sure. I actually wrote the second verse to “Honest” in my trailer on set for a movie called ‘Busboys’ coming out soon. It’s funny because we were in a cemetery, so the lyrics “keep throwing dirt while you’re digging your grave” was literally inspired by the graveyard I was in. Which then inspired the whole music video (coming out soon). It’s so cool when unexpected things like that happen.
With “Honest” coming out soon, what can fans hope for next? Perhaps an album in the future?
I have been working on a bunch of new songs..I definitely think it’s time for another album or EP, we shall see!
Any upcoming acting roles we should look out for?
Look out for Ronda in ‘Busboys’, coming soon!
Any advice for aspiring artists, singers, actors?
Regardless of what’s currently going on, don’t stop creating. Whether that be journaling, drawing, making poems, messing around on the guitar. It doesn’t matter, as long as you’re breathing, create.
Thank you so much for taking the time to share your art and creativity with us. We wish you much success, and many movies and songs to come!
