Lefra Productions, who has already performed FIELA SE KIND – THE DRAMA by Dalene Matthee with the stage script by Suzanne van Wijk on three occasions (1997, 2007, 2017) has decided to host an online analysis and discussion session on Thursday, 28 August 2025 from 10:00 am to 12:00 am (120 Minutes). The content:
The session specifically attempted to assist Grade 12 Afrikaans First Additional Language learners to have a better understanding of FIELA SE KIND – THE DRAMA. Frans Swart, who has been on many journeys with Fiela in the past, will be the panel leader. Frans knew Dalene Matthee and Suzanne van Wijk very well. In fact, Suzanne van Wijk was one of his mentors at the Academy of Drama Arts (ADK). The discussion will concentrate on the following aspects of the drama:
- Characters
- Exposition / exposition of the drama
- Development phase
- Crisis phase
- Climax / highlight (s)
- Developments between the different characters
- Crisis and unbundling
- End and whether the conflict have been resolved
- The struggle of Benjamin / Lukas to who he really is
- Fiela’s longing for her “child” and the fact that she never gave up on getting her “child” back
- Barta’s struggle with herself and the lie she was forced to tell
- Elia’s abuse of Lukas
- The historical placement of the play
- The Komoetie family vs the Van Rooyen family
- The Census men and the Magistrate’s verdict
- Nina – was not his sister!
How does it work?
The session will be rebroadcast live on 28 August 2025 at 10:00. We have received quite a few questions from teachers with the first live broadcast that added value to the work session.
What does the school need to participate in this discussion session?
Participating in this re-broadcast is quite simple. If you can access Facebook or send an email, you can partake in this discussion session! You will need the following:
- A good internet connection – we understand that most schools have this infrastructure
- We suggest that the discussion session is screened in the school hall or other separate location on a large screen with good sound
- A laptop connected to the internet, with a connection to the screen and sound system is sufficient
- When you booked and paid for the online discussion session, you will receive a unique link on 28 August 2025 around 08:00. We will broadcast a test message from 08:30 so that you can make sure that everything is in perfect working order for the session that will start at 10:00. Our technical team will be on standby to assist where necessary.
- If all your equipment is functioning and you received your unique link, you just must click on this link to view the discussion session. If there are any synchronisation issues, just click “refresh” – do not close the page

What are the costs?
We really tried to keep the costs as low as possible for this discussion session of FIELA SE KIND – THE DRAMA. We have compiled a sliding scale per learner which is very affordable. We are going to have to rely on your honesty that you provide us with the actual number of learners. Bringing this session to you is really very expensive and that is why we ask that every learner pay. As was the case with our stage performances, if a learner cannot afford to pay, you can allow him or her free access, but please limit this. You will know which learners cannot afford it. The costs are as follows:
- 1-20 Learners: R200 per learner
- 21-50 Learner: R150 per learner
- 51-100 Learner: R75 per learner
- 101-200 Learner: R50 per learner
- 201-300 Learner: R40 per learner
- 301-1000 Learner: R35 per learner
