Launching Sunset Praise Women’s Day Jazz Picnic

As Women’s Day celebrations take place across the country, a group of young females have come together to launch the first ever SUNSET PRAISE in partnership with the Bodirwa Women’s Art Gallery on Saturday 13 August 2016.
The Sunset Praise event is a progressive lifestyle platform where contemporary music meets revolutionary art. Through this collaborative event family, friends and loved ones can spoil their heroines with an afternoon under the autumn skies with live jazz music while indulging on a vibrant art and craft market from South Africa’s youngest and finest.

The event will feature the Gallery’s exhibition called ‘Out of the cubicle’ which aims to provide a platform of exposure for young and upcoming women creatives, challenging them to come out of their comfort zones, embrace their creativity and to fearlessly express themselves. The theme ‘Out of the cubicle’ is mainly based on each of the artist’s opinion and particular ideas that they want to portray, as well as the quality of the materials used to create the artworks. The ultimate aim is to reach a point where young female artists are encouraged to be unapologetic about the issues they want to convey to the world, being proud of their craft and unintimidated by the social norms and stereotypical discourses.

The exhibition, featuring a collection of over 30 artworks comprises of a range of diverse styles, techniques and approach in the creation of art, including canvases, beading crafts, glass sculpts and ceramic designs.

The Jazz Event will feature live Jazz music and performances from Nonhlanhla Mdluli, Bongi Damans and Various artists.
Founder Nano Gasenewe said, “As women it is very difficult to focus on ourselves and the things we love. Events like these allow us to enjoy ourselves together with those who complete and make us whole. In that way they become part of our growth and partners in our development journey. This enables us to all together progress as a healthy nation.”
