Francois van Rensburg is a award winning radio presenter as well as a well-known actor and TV presenter. “Cowboys Don’t Cry” is his latest single release as part time singer / songwriter.
Everyone knows the saying: “Cowboys don’t cry”. He wrote a song about this after he stopped at a traffic light one day and saw a man begging for help and money. “I did not have any money or anything with me at that stage to give to him, but I rolled down my window to just have a chat to him. The man stood there defenseless and when I asked him about his wellbeing, he answered: Cowboys don’t cry”.
This made Francois think about how we have been taught since childhood that we need to persist in hard times.
In earlier days it was almost unheard of for men to show or talk about their feelings. Men always had to be strong and never show their emotions, but at the end of the day we are all just human and there’s also power in defenselessness. “This inspired me to tell this man’s story and to remind me that when I stand in front of a challenge, there are other people who are worse off than me. Through the years many things changed and today I know that strong men are also allowed to have feelings and we are also allowed to cry. Sometimes we cry in the rain so that no one can see your tears, but there are precious lessons to be learned in shared sorrow”.
Music is still a passion project for Francois and although he does it part time it gives him endless joy to release at least two new singles every year and his fans are very thankful for that!
