The first part of the path will lead the students to build a 3d asset, following the main rules and the standard quality to get an asset production-ready for the VFX industry. We will follow step by step the standard Modeling workflow to build a weapon using the main DCC for modeling in every Asset Department for VFX: Autodesk Maya. Good shapes before good topology, this will be the mood for the modeling path.

The second part will lead the students through the phases that follow modeling, starting with the technical and artistic aspects of texturing, describing in detail what texture maps are, and how they can be used in lookdev. Once the foundations have been laid down, the students will be introduced to the use of Substance Painter for texturing, and Maya/Arnold for lookdev.

You’ll be side by side with Gennaro Esposito, Lead Asset, and Claudia Marvisi, Lead Texture Artist at PIXOMONDO, an Oscar and Emmy award-winning visual effects and virtual production company with six offices in North America, and Europe.

Under the guidance and supervision of the instructors, you will bring the asset to the next stage by creating first a high-quality model ready for textures and lookdev, until the final render.

THE INSTRUCTORS:

Gennaro Esposito is a 3D Artist specializing in Environment and Hard Surface modeling. He has more than 10 years of experience in CGI and Motion Graphics. He is currently the Lead Asset at PIXOMONDO Germany. At PIXOMONDO he manages the modeling department for Movie and TV Shows such as The Mandalorian, Star Trek Discovery, Raised by Wolves by Ridley Scott, Without Remorse, and many others. He also worked at MPC London as Modeler TD for Disney Movie “The LION KING” and as Senior Modeler TD for Paramount Pictures Movie “SONIC The Hedgehog “.

Claudia Marvisi is the Lead Texture Artist at PIXOMONDO Germany for feature films and tv series. She took the role of Lead Texture Artist for movies such as Midway by Roland Emmerich and acclaimed series such as Star Wars – The Mandalorian, Raised by Wolves, and Star Trek Discovery. Ten years ago, she started her career as a 2D artist for videogames and advertising. In 2014 she approached the VFX world as a 3D generalist/texture artist, overarching to matte painting and motion graphics for film and tv series like Live by Night, xXx-Return of Xander Cage, Justice League, and The Shannara Chronicles. Fascinated by the artistic, storytelling, and technical challenges, she specialized in texturing throughout the years while keeping in touch with the rest of the production pipeline. She worked on projects such as Game of Thrones, Carnival Row, The Watchmen, and many others.
